September Update on Ada Condos ~Villas of Ada Tour, Ada MI ~

We did some investigating the other day and took a field trip, so we

could report on the new Ada condos going up in Ada off

Ada Drive & Hall Street, The Villas of Ada.

The developer has a similar community in Grandville where we took

a tour of the models and community clubhouse. Until the club house

and condominum models are open here in Ada, estimated to be

early 2009, we thought you would like a sneak preview.

We have put pictures and some information together on a visual

tour, so you can take an armchair tour of what the Ada condo

models will look like.

We were very impressed with the consideration given to a mature life style.

For instance, in Villas of Ada there will be NO STEPS! Period.

The plans have been adjusted so there will be more storage in the pantry,

and access to the garage attic will be easier.  The pool is kept open until

November 1 and is kept heated  to 80 degrees.  The fitness center can be

accessed 24 hours a day with a key, so you can exercise at 3 am,

 if you want to.

A nice plus is the Ada Walking Path that can be accessed off Ada Drive

This path is now connected to Grand Rapids Township and Frederick

Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park at Forest Hills & Fulton.

As you can see by the photos, this will be an very nice development

 to live in.

Construction continues on Villas of Ada Condos, Ada MI

The update for the Villas of Ada, Ada MI  is that the bulldozers have moved

in, three existing homes have been torn down and are on their way out.  We

have been watching the progress every day as we drive by. The road has

been closed this week to hook up sewer and water. At the present it looks

more destructive than constructive, but that is what the building

process is all about.

A large home was here but is gone now. The one on the right is the only one

left of the three existing homes being removed.

Our neighborhood connects to this parcel on the right. We can hear the dozers

and land movers working away all day.  These photos are taken from Hall Street.

The Ada Drive entrance is at the other end of this development.  Check out my

other blog article about Villas of Ada.

East Village, Ada MI July 2008 Real Estate Market Report

The East Village subdivision off of Ada Drive in Ada Township is a fairly

new development. The new housing construction started in 2005 and

is still continuing to date. You can buy a resale home or a new home

in this centrally located housing development.  Near both public and

private schools, East Village is also close to the Forest Hills and 28th

Street shopping areas. The Ada Bike or Walking Trail also connects

this area on Ada Drive with the village of Ada and the village of Cascade.

East Village is also close by the expressway for easy access to many

different parts of our greater Grand Rapids area quickly.  Large,

executive style homes with many amenities and extras are the rule for

this neighborhood. If you would like to start with a brand new house,

this may be the place for you to call home.

The Green Clothesline ~ An Earth Day Tribute

Clotheslines are considered old fashioned and unsightly in some American neighborhoods.

Why is this?

When did hanging out your clothes for the sun and wind to dry them become obsolete and unsightly?

In some areas of the USA, outdoor clotheslines are banned by town ordinances, such as: Poughkeepsie,

NY, Schaumberg, IL, Vallejo, CA and all the historic districts in Columbus OH.

According to Alexander Lee over at LaundryList, 5-10% of US residential electricity is used by home

clothes dryers, the second most costly appliance we have in our homes. Oh, and they

also attribute 15,600 household fires, 15 deaths, and 400 injuries a year to automatic

clothes dryers in our homes, with a national cost of $99 million dollars.

laundry on the line

I can recall helping my Mother & my Grandmother hanging out the clothes. It was a magical sight to

see the sheets and towels catch the wind, snap and try to sail away. There was also something

verytidy and domestic about seeing everyones pants, socks, and underwear lined up

on the line. It was a visual sign that you belonged to this tribe, your possessions were right there

on the line with theirs.

I have many fond memories of a day camp made on the clothesline with a big blanket and some

rocks to hold down the edges. It was our fort, or hide away, our secluded retreat from

the adult world for the day. We got to take our lunch of jelly bread sandwiches inside the

tent which made them taste much, much better. If you were really brave, you could sleep overnight

out in the clothesline tent – but this was only for intrepid souls who didn’t mind the night sounds,

animals and bugs, like me, my little brothers were not up for it. In their defense, they were

only 2 and 5 years old at the time.

Let’s reconsider the lowly clothesline on Earth Day and here after, as a means to

dry our clothes responsibly and not add to the energy grid and polluting the earth.

We get clean, fresh smelling clothes (sunshine is a natural germ killer and bleaching agent] and

our children can have visual memories of the family rainment literally flapping in the breeze.
