Ada Michigan Sat Sept 17 River Clean-Up Day

Ada Township’s Parks and Recreation Department & the Thornapple

River Watershed Council are rallying volunteers, local landowners and

boaters  to help remove trash and debris from along the banks and in

the Thornapple River and Grand River during this year’s Annual River

Clean-Up Day, Saturday, September 17, 2011.

Grand River Ada Michigan

Local church, community and service groups, as well as individuals are

being encouraged to participate. Participants under the age of 18 must

be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. Volunteers may

join in a “land team” to walk along the shores or a “water team” to be

on the river in their canoes, kayak or other boat.  All volunteers should

pre-register with the coordinating agencies prior to the River Clean-Up

Day to coordinate supplies and logistics.

Ada Township’s Parks and Recreation Department is focusing its efforts

to help clean up sections of Thornapple River and the Grand River that

flow through Ada Township.  Volunteers are to contact the Ada Parks

& Recreation Department prior to the event to register.  On Saturday,

September 17th, volunteers are to meet at Leonard Field Park by the

Covered Bridge in Ada at 8:30 a.m. for an orientation meeting, car

shuttle, snacks, supplies and team assignments. A complimentary lunch

will be provided at 12:30 p.m.

Autumn on the Thornapple River Grand Rapids Michigan

Autumn is a picturesque time of year here in West Michigan. We

have lots of rivers, lakes, fall color, and lots of wildlife.  This series

of photos lets you see a few residents of the Thornapple River at

their daily routine.  The Thornapple River flows into the Grand River,

the longest in the state at Ada Michigan.  Needless to say, a haven for wildlife year round.  This gaggle of geese was just off the

Thornapple Pointe Golf Club  in southeastern Kent County a few

weekends ago.
