Michigan is turning 175 years old this week.  Our seasonal salute to our

West Michigan area can be summed up by the four photos below:

Autumn brings crisp weather, fall bounty, and colorful vistas.

We think any of Michigan’s seasons are a great time to celebrate our state.

This mom and baby deer were grazing out in the open at Tulleymore Golf

Course when I played there this spring.  We were also met by a herd on

the driveway into the course early that morning in Stanton, Michigan.  If you

live in Michigan, the white tail deer is a common sight, either in your yard

eating your shrubbery or along the road in open fields.

In case  you have been living in a bubble, this Monday was opening day

for Firearm Deer Season in Michigan.  The Department of Natural Resources

estimates that this is a $1 Billion industry for Michigan, with hunters buying

gas, food, licenses, and hunting gear.  In the recent past, about one and half

million licenses were bought each year.  This year, with the down turn in the

economy, just over a million licenses are expected to be sold.

Kent County had the first reported case of Chronic Deer Wasting Disease

in 2008.  All Kent County deer killed must be taken to a check station where

the DNR checks for CDW by removing the deer head and sending it in for

testing.

If you are interested in Deer Hunting in Michigan, the DNR and Michigan

State University have a website with lots of information including: updates,

weather, news, field data, and more.

ArtPrize 2010 Wooden cone Hi

ArtPrize 2010 has Grand Rapids  residents and visitors out on the

streets taking in the more than 1700 art exhibits around the city and

at Meijer Gardens.  You might expect an art extravaganza like this in a

large cosmopolitan city, not nice Midwestern  Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We previewed some of the larger outdoor pieces on Sunday before

the big opening Wednesday night.  We hope to see a lot more art in

the next few weeks.  If you are considering a trip to our fair city,

this is a perfect time.  ArtPrize 2010 will run until October 10.  Anyone

who attends can vote for the winners.

First Robin Sighting in Grand Rapids Michigan

We saw our first robin yesterday – sure sign spring is here!!

If you live in Grand Rapids MI, you know that the robins return

signals spring.  We have had a cold and snowy winter this year and

are especially glad to see our first one this year.

Robins bring the message of spring in person every year!

robin gr mi real estate

I always marvel at their early arrival ~ They are the first birds to nest in the spring and

hatch their first babies in April. A pair of robins will raise 2-3 batches of young every summer

season, selecting and building a new nest every time. They ignore the weather, our soil is still

frozen in spots, so not much worm activity yet. They are also the State Bird of Michigan.

Probably selected for the forementioned reasons.robin gr mi real estate

Much like the robins, we also get the urge to move

and make a new start in the spring.

Are you thinking of getting a home with more room?

Do you need a bigger garage or basement?

Do your children need more space to play??

Whatever the reason, now is a great time to move up and get the home of your dreams.

Don’t believe what  the media has been touting ad nauseum.   People are getting their house ready

to sell, selling them and moving every day.

Just like the robins, we can find a new home this spring, too.
